If you’ve spent any time trekking around Lukla or the Everest trails, there’s a good chance you’ve heard the name Rohit Tamang. He’s from Solukhumbu, right in the heart of the Himalayas, and grew up with the mountains as his backyard. Trekking wasn’t something he had to “learn to love” — it was simply part of life from the start.
Rohit has been guiding for about 14 years now, most of it in the Everest region. He joined Shikhar Adventure in 2019, and since then, he’s been one of those guides people ask for when they come back for a second trek. He lives near Lukla, so he’s always connected with the local community — the lodge owners, porters, and other guides — which makes everything smoother for his guests.
People enjoy that Rohit is honest and steady the most. He works hard, is honest, and has a knack of making even the hardest uphill journey feel a bit easier. He knows all the paths by heart, from the magnificent views that everyone takes pictures of to the quiet corners that most hikers miss.
He stays calm and friendly no matter how long the day is, how bad the weather is, or how frightened the first-time trekkers are. Rohit wants to do more than simply get you to your destination. He wants to make sure you enjoy the trip and leave with a meaningful connection to the mountains he calls home.
