Trek Overview

The Gokyo Valley Trek is the younger brother of all trekking routes in Nepal. It is the calmer alternative to the hustle and bustle of Everest Base Camp. For exceptional views, minimal human presence, and opportunities to encounter Nepal's largest glacier and sacred lakes, Gokyo Valley should hence be on the traveler's adventurous must-visit list. Quite literally, trek right into the heart of the Himalayas through the home villages of the Sherpas, green valleys, and splendid mountain vistas, some of the highest peaks in the world at the rear, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu.

The most overwhelming climax of the Gokyo Valley Trek is to reach the serene Gokyo Lakes. These are a series of sacral, blue-colored glacial lakes at an elevation of 4,800 meters. These beautiful lakes are considered sacred by the local Sherpas and the trekkers who visit the place. It also leads up to the top of Gokyo Ri, the remarkable peak at 5,357 meters above sea level, which offers a 360-degree view of Everest and surrounding mountains.

If you are into trekking and enjoy being outdoors for much of the time, then this Gokyo Valley Trek promises magnificin views, rousing culture, and a challenging yet satisfying trek right in the middle of the Himalayas.

Why choose Gokyo Valley Trek?

Panoramic Views - Scenic Beauty

The sight of the Khumbu region from the Gokyo Valley is great. A high snow mountain, serene lakes, rough land—that all are the features during Gokyo trekking—are simply great to watch. Set amidst the surrounding white peaks, the blue waters of Gokyo Lakes are exquisitely beautiful. This climb is very vital to reach Gokyo Ri because you will have wide views of the Everest range, Makalu, and Cho Oyu once you reach the top.

Less crowded version of the Everest Base Camp Trek.

Gokyo Valley Trek is among a few treks in Nepal embracing mass numbers of trekkers. This route has fewer people to keep the same feeling of privacy and quiet in the wilderness. If anybody seeks peace and wants to experience the power of the Himalayas with a minimum number of people, then this trek is highly recommended.

Major Highlights of Gokyo Valley Trek

  • Gokyo Lakes: The attraction in the Gokyo Lakes Trek is to get to the blue glacial lakes, of which the highest one rests at 4,800 meters. The lakes are sacred and very famous due to their beauty; they lie along the high Himalayas.
  • Gokyo Ri: The climb to Gokyo Ri is quite tough but highly rewarding. At 5,357m, it offers one of the most thrilling panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu with a bird's eye view of the biggest Ngozumpa Glacier in Nepal.
  • Sherpa Villages and Culture: The Gokyo Valley Trek presents to you an array of satisfyingly beautiful Sherpa villages consisting of places such as Namche Bazaar and Machhermo. These villages represent typical Sherpa lifestyles. The Sherpa peoples are well-recognized for their great hospitality and rich history in mountain climbing.
  • Ngozumpa Glacier: Stretching out below Gokyo Ri, this is the longest glacier in the Himalayas and adds to the dramatic landscape of the Gokyo trail.
Itinerary

Note: Due to over-demand and congestion in Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu during the high season in April-May, the flight to Lukla is operated from Manthali Airport. Manthali Airport is located in Ramechhap District, some 4-5 hours' drive from Kathmandu. Anyway, the arrangement of transportation from your hotel in Kathmandu to Manthali will be managed by our part so that this goes smooth. Please be prepared to leave very early in the morning to catch the Manthali-Lukla flight. It's actually an adjustment to provide a more reliable and efficient flight experience in the busiest trekking months.
