Essential Packing Guide for Himalayan Treks with Shikhar Adventure
Smart Packing for Nepal Treks: Travel Light, Trek Far
The Himalayan adventure once in a lifetime turns out to be successful for a reason: gear. We at Shikhar Adventure know pretty well just how important proper equipment is to make this journey not only safe but also successful. This will enable one to embrace the magic of the mountains with the mind focused on breathtaking landscapes rather than discomforts or unpreparedness, should one be well prepared for all eventualities.
All that you need to know before heading towards mighty Himalaya, Nepal.
Why the right gear matters
Trekking in the Himalayas isn't a regular vacation. Unpredictable weather, varied topography, and high altitude demands that gear be comfortable, protective, and efficient. Most everything is available for purchase or rent in both Kathmandu or Pokhara, but it's always best to check and pack the better quality items one has. Kathmandu offers a plethora of shops, ranging from very inexpensive local shops to high-end brands such as The North Face, Salewa, Mountain Hardwear, and Vaude, thus becoming a perfect center for last-minute preparations.
Pack Smart: Leave What You Don’t Need
When heading to the mountains, weight matters. While our experienced porters can carry up to 25–30 kg per trip, we always recommend traveling light for ease and convenience. Anything non-essential can be safely stored at your hotel in Kathmandu free of charge, letting you focus on your trek without extra burden.
