Som Bahadur Majhi is a licensed trekking guide from Dolakha, a hill district north-east of Kathmandu.
Dolakha has a special place in Nepal's trekking history. The bazaar town of Jiri, in Dolakha, was where expeditions and trekkers began the long walk to Everest before the Lukla airstrip existed, and the route is still walked today. The district also looks out on Gaurishankar and the remote Rolwaling Valley, and its hilltop Kalinchowk Bhagwati temple draws pilgrims year-round.
Earning a trekking guide license means completing the government's guide training and examination, and Som chose that path to turn the mountains around him into his profession. Today he leads treks as part of the Shikhar Adventure team.
Trekking Guide License No.: 7691 (Government of Nepal)
